A telescopic boom lift — sometimes called a straight boom or stick boom — has a single boom that extends in a straight line, like a telescope. Because all of its length goes into reaching outward and upward, a telescopic boom delivers the greatest horizontal outreach and the highest straight-line reach of any boom lift in its class.

Telescopic booms are the right choice when:

• The ground is open and clear — open construction sites, yards, and lay-down areas
• You need maximum horizontal distance — reaching across a barrier, water, or an area the machine can't drive into
• You're working at the top of the height range — facades, steel structures, and tall industrial work where straight-line reach matters most
• Access is unobstructed — nothing stands between the machine and the work area

What Is an Articulated Boom Lift?

An articulated boom lift — also called a knuckle boom — has multiple boom sections connected by joints (knuckles) that bend. Instead of only reaching in a straight line, it can fold and angle the platform up and over obstacles, then position it precisely where you need it. That flexibility is its whole purpose.

Articulated booms are the right choice when:

• There's an obstacle in the way — a wall, parked vehicles, landscaping, or plant equipment between the machine and the work
• You need "up and over" access — lifting the platform up, then out over a barrier to reach the far side
• The work is around a structure — facade detailing, signage on building corners, or maintenance behind obstructions
• Space is tight — the folding boom lets you tuck in and reposition where a straight boom simply can't fit
